Welcome to Shalom Carmel

brought to you by Amir Katz

With a deep passion for the region,

I teach and guide for a better tomorrow!

In Hebrew, a מורה דרך translates to ‘teacher of the path’.  Indeed, the romantic in me adores these two roles, as they are a foundation of my work as teacher and guide. Yet, it’s the connection to the path, the road, the journey, that most speaks to my heart and soul. I love to share ideas, but the journey is where true magic happens!

Likewise, my name, Amir Katz, highlights a certain duality in my persona, as an Israeli and a member of the Hebrew tribe. Amir means ‘prince’, honoring the principality that my people founded some 3500 years ago. And ‘Katz’ translates to ‘high priest’ and the religious order that grew alongside the principality. The institutions of religion and state are built into my name and I believe the separation of the two is one of the greatest gifts the Jewish people have given to humanity.

Born in Boston to an Israeli father and American mother, I tend to straddle both worlds. After nearly a decade of travel and work in South and Central America, I kept meeting Israeli travelers and decided it was time to follow them home. I’ve worked as a teacher to at-risk youth, taught in Arab villages, helped establish an NGO working with Bedouin’s, and have since found my passion as a guide and ‘teacher of the path’.

After a decade of guiding and leading hundreds of travelers and groups across Israel, Jordan, and Egypt, I wanted to take the leap and show you the most important and beautiful region for me — my home region, Mt. Carmel.

It was here, according to tradition, that the prophet Elijah stood against the priests of Ba’al, turning a confrontation with paganism and idol worship into a defining conversation that shaped faith for generations. Here is where Herod built his city of Caesarea, where brave Jewish pioneers established a village and Israel’s first winery and business, and it is today the place that I call home.

As a 4th-generation sommelier and certified Israeli tour guide, Amir blends culture, history, and hospitality into everything he offers. His approach combines intellectual depth with sensory experience: blending stories and site visits with Israel’s natural wonders. And being a ‘Cohen’, he tends to add a touch of the spiritual.
